WALKABOUT MINI GOLF: POCKET EDITION

NEW STANDARD GAMEPLAY

Our team is thrilled to introduce Pocket Edition players to a whole new way of golfing with our latest Standard Mode gameplay.

Standard Mode is our new vertical-only, non-gyro mode that relies purely on swipe-and-tap and pinch/pull motion for players to navigate and play. This mode sets players into a locked camera position behind the ball and allows for a smooth, casual gameplay experience.

Whether you're commuting on a bumpy bus or curled up into the perfect couch potato, Standard Mode is ideal for the player who needs some no-fuss, on-the-go, quick catharsis mini golf in their life. ⛳

Please note:

  • Players are automatically set to Standard mode and the Pocket Edition tutorial will default to Standard gameplay. Players can switch between Standard Mode and Immersive Mode (our gyroscopic mode) while on-course, in vertical orientation. Tap on the score display on the bottom of the screen to hail a radial menu of settings; the "Look Mode" button controls between Standard and Immersive Mode.

    • For Standard Mode, the icon display is a finger tap.

    • For Immersive Mode, the icon display is an eye.

  • Standard Mode gameplay can only utilize our Touch-to-Putt gameplay style. To utilize our Swing-to-Putt gyroscopic gameplay, you will need to have your device in landscape orientation and enable Immersive Mode.

  • Players can toggle the tutorial on/off by tapping on the graduation cap toggle on the scorecard.

POCKET EDITION FEATURES

Three ways to play: Touch-to-Putt, Swing-to-Putt, Standard Play

  • Touch-to-Putt is our vertical/portrait mode playstyle, where players will drag and release to putt the ball. A green power bar will show the direction and strength of the putt, which is visible for all players in a room.

  • Swing-to-Putt is our horizontal/landscape mode playstyle, where players physically move their phone in space to putt the ball. Players will see yellow guidelines on the green; these guidelines will not show for other players, but the player putter is visible to all players in a room.

  • Note: Our three putting styles have different strength adjustments so users can customize the power of each putting style. To change your putting strength, navigate to your on-course Settings, then the 'Putter' tab.

  • Standard Mode is our new vertical-only, non-gyro mode that relies purely on swipe-and-tap and pinch/pull motion for players to navigate and play. This mode sets players into a locked camera position behind the ball and allows for a smooth, casual gameplay experience.

Managed Downloads

Players can customize the amount of storage Pocket Edition takes on-device by managing which courses you want installed. Note: Progress, Records, Lost Balls, and other save data will be preserved between uninstalls/reinstalls of courses.

  • To install/uninstall a course ⬇️:

    • Horizontal: See the 'Manage Downloads' button in the lower right-hand corner menu.

    • Vertical: Scroll to the very bottom of the Shack Course Selection menu, see the 'Manage Downloads' button in the center of the bottom menu.

    • There will be 'Delete All' and 'Download All' buttons to mass select the catalogue. Users will be able to see the percentage of courses stored and MB used.

Note: Courses will automatically download if you do not have them installed upon course launch.

Release and Roadmap

Pocket Edition is designed to be a companion to our VR game, supporting and growing alongside the base game without diverting focus from it's development. This means certain features and functionality released on VR won't always be available for mobile players.

Our team has specific planned developments to accommodate for mobile players in the larger cross-play Walkabout experience, and to make the individual Pocket Edition experience feel smoother. We are also intentionally taking time to evaluate early user feedback, and to leverage that to guide our mobile development so that we can stay true to what players want.

When will you support Android? Our small team is still perfecting development on iOS, and we want to ensure we've made a stable, polished project for one mobile platform before considering expanding to others.

Please note the below restrictions of Pocket Edition from VR:

  • Quick Match is not available for mobile, meaning Pocket Edition is Private Room only.

  • Pocket Edition players do not appear at the Welcome Island Shack in VR cross-play rounds.

  • Pocket Edition does not currently support foxhunts due to limitations around navigation. Our team is still exploring alternative putter collection methods for users and is listening closely to input during this time.

  • Pocket Edition navigation utilizes a series of swipes, taps, and gyro, and does not include the flying functionality that VR does. Mobile has a specific 'Look Around' functionality on-course (accessible through a toggle on the horizontal scorecard) that allows users an uninterrupted view of the course from God Mode.

  • Scorecards in VR/Pocket rooms have device icons next to the player name that signifies which platform (mobile or VR) the user is playing on.
